Eid is a festival that is The special gift of Allah for Muslims.
The hadith pertaining to it is narrated by Hazrat Anas (RA) in the following manner:
“Holy Prophet came to Madinah, the people had two days in which they used to entertain and amuse themselves. He asked: “What are these two days?” They said: “We used to amuse ourselves and take pleasure in these two days during the Days of Ignorance (jahiliyyah). The Messenger of Allah said, “Allah has substituted for you something better than these two; the Eid of Adha (sacrifice) and the Eid of Fitr .” [Sunan Abi Dawood]
From this hadith it is clear that the function or festival of Eid is a blessing from Allah Almighty so that Muslims could rejoice and celebrate during the days of Eid. Therefore, if there is an occasion which Muslim can make specific for rejoicing, celebrating and merry making, it is the day of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

The festival is celebrated over three days . Following the Sunnah, which is the record of teachings of the Prophet Mohammad [pbuh], Muslims wake up early in the morning, chant their Salat ul-Fajr (daily prayers), take a bath and wear ittar (perfume). It is a custom to eat a hearty breakfast before people head to perform the special congregational prayers. Many Muslims also recite the takbir, which is the declaration of faith, on their way to the prayer ground and take part in Zakat al-Fitr (charitable contributions).
Etiquettes
It is desirable to start saying: “Allah Akbar” [Allah is the Greatest] from the setting of the sun on the night of `Eid until the Imam comes to perform Salat-ul-`Eid,
It was reported from Ibn `Umar that he used to go out for Salat-ul-`Eid starting from the masjid (after performing the FajrSalah) and continued pronouncing Takbir until he reached the praying place and until theImam comes.
Do Ghusl (bath and go as far as) removing the hair of the armpit, clip the nails and wearing new clothes because these actions are parts of adornment.
Wear new/clean clothes
Ibn Al Qayyim (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to wear his most beautiful clothes for `Eid, so he had a garment which he used to wear on the Two Days of `Eids and on Friday.
Routine of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):
There are numerous narrations of different Companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that show the different activities which the Prophet (PBUH) used to perform during the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. Some of the major Activities of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) specific to this day are discussed below.
Eid Prayer – The renowned Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) pertaining to the day of Eid-ul-Fitr is the offering of Eid prayer. Pertaining to this, Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates:
“I prayed with the Messenger of Allah the two Eid prayers more than once or twice3, without an Adhan or Iqamah.” (Muslim)
From this narration it is clear that offering the prayer of Eid was an act which Prophet (PBUH) specially performed during the Eid-ul-fitr day.
Eating Food – The preparation and eating of variety of foods in general and sweets in particular is something that is also representative of the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. Hazrat Anas (RA) narrates:
“Prophet (PBUH) did not go (to the place of prayer) in the morning on the days of Eid-ul-Fitr till he ate some dates, and he used to eat an odd number.” (Bukhari)
Therefore, before going for the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer a Muslim must consider eating something before going to the prayer. In another narration, Hazrat Buraidah (RA) says:
“Holy Prophet (PBUH) did not go out on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr till he had eaten some food; and that he did not eat any food on the day of Eid-ul-Adha (sacrifice) till he had prayed.” (Tirmidhi)
Therefore, on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr a Muslim must ensure that before going to offer prayer he eats something first.
Change of Routes – On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr before going to offer prayer, Prophet (PBUH) would go from one route and come back from the other. This is mentioned in the narration of Hazrat Jabir (RA) where He said:
“On the day of Eid the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to return by a different route from the one he had taken when going out.” (Bukhari)
Thus, on the day of Eid a Muslim must take different routes so that he can meet and greet as much people possible and spread love.

Method of Performing Eid-ul-Fitr Prayer:
Eid-ul-Fitr is different from the regular obligatory prayers and it has an additional method of offering. The lines below give the major steps involved in offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayer.
The first step is to make intention for the prayer which would be different compared to the intention made for regular prayer. In this prayer a Muslim must intend for offering two Rakats Wajib with Six additional Takbeers and after that say ‘Allahu Akbar’ while touching the ears in the same way as in regular prayer.
Intentions may vary for diferent person in the jamat as shown here
Method of performing Eid Prayer Sketch
The second step is the same as regular prayer in which a Muslim would recite Sana, however, after the Sana instead of moving to Qirat, a Muslim would say Allahu Akbar and touch the ears and then let the hands loose downwards. This will take place three times and after that he would fold the hands in the same way as done in regular prayer and start reciting Qirat.
The rest of the steps would be the same as in the regular prayer, where a Muslim would go into Rukoo, say the Tasbeeh, rise and then go into prostration two times with the Tasbeeh in the prostration and then rise up for the second Rakat.
When in the second Rakat a Muslim must continue with the Qirat and before going to Rukoo by saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ a Muslim must touch the ears and let the hands loose instead of going into Rukoo. He must say ‘Allahu Akbar’ three times and in the fourth time, he must go into the Rukoo.
After that a Muslim must continue on with the regular prayer steps and after Tashud say Salam and conclude the prayer and afterwards make Dua.
